If you get our newsletter you’ll be aware that we’ve had a couple of big announcements in the pipeline and this is one of them. We’re utterly thrilled in a ‘pinch yourself is this actually happening?’ kind of way that the William Wates Memorial Trust have come on board as our first ever multi-year funder.
We have one of our founding former trustees, Laura Vakil to thank for an introduction to the Wates Foundation back in 2014. Over the course of a year, trustee Jonny Wates and the then director of the Wates Family Charities, Brian Wheelwright patiently helped me to prepare for a funding application leading to our first £10,000 unrestricted grant and the beginning of the Abram Wilson Foundation becoming my full-time employment.
The trustees of the William Wates Memorial Trust have now approved a three-year grant of £50,000 which will go towards supporting the arts education strand of Achieve Your Greatness. This grant will enable us to reach 8,000 children and young people based at 10 ongoing partnering schools and youth organisations in deprived areas of London and Birmingham through assemblies, performances and workshops. Participants of our workshops will be monitored for their improvement in important transferable and artistic skills which fall under our 5Cs: Creativity, Confidence, Collaboration, Communication and Critical Thinking.
“The William Wates Memorial Trust is excited to be helping the Abram Wilson Foundation increase the scale and quality of their impact through their Achieve Your Greatness programme. They are expert in encouraging young people, many of whom have little exposure to the joy of the performing arts, to get involved and to learn and grow through participation.” Jonny Wates, Trustee of the William Wates Memorial Trust
