On Sunday 27th October we begin the start of a ten date tour, labelled Saxophone Giants which will be headed up by the much loved, virtuoso tenor player Jean Toussaint, former band member of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers.  He will be joined by two more recent members of Wilson’s band, rising star, Reuben James, who the Times said, “…is fast becoming Britain’s best young jazz pianist” and the highly respected drummer Dave Hamblett.  Completing the group will be Toussaint’s long-time bandmate, Larry Bartley on double bass.

The tour, which starts on 27th October and runs until the beginning of December, is an opportunity to celebrate the life of my husband, Abram and pay tribute to some of the greatest saxophone players in the history of jazz, including Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson and John Coltrane.

As we enter November, the line-up will change slightly to include Abram’s long time friend and bandmate from his New York days, American saxophonist Keith Loftis and the young, but extremely talented Mark Lewandowski on double bass.

The tour will be an emotional one for me, but something I felt driven to do.  I wanted to honour my husband and his memory by supporting something he lived for and loved.  This led me to reunite some of Abram’s band members, old and new, to finish something that he couldn’t.  And so, this Sunday, it begins.  I very much hope to see some of you there.

Till soon!
