Introducing our new Creative Director, Mercy Welbeck

We are thrilled to announce that Mercy Welbeck will be joining Abram Wilson as Creative Director from July!

Mercy, also known by her artist moniker MEI, is a multi-disciplinary artist and creative producer from South London. After graduating from the London College of Contemporary Music, Mercy went on to launch her solo artist project which has been supported by Help Musicians, PRS Foundation and Arts Council England. She is passionate about creative talent development and routes into the industry, having worked on higher education programmes at LCCM, Barbican Centre and Guildhall School. She then went on to join the management team at the youth-led music charity Small Green Shoots where she supported their highly successful Young Shoots programme. Following her tenure there, Mercy returned to the Barbican to lead the National Open Youth Orchestra London Centre in partnership with Open Up Music and Guildhall School.

Mercy says: ‘I am so honoured to be appointed Creative Director of the Abram Wilson charity. It is an incredible opportunity to continue Abram’s legacy developing the next generation of talent, and building upon the amazing work of its founder Jennie Cashman Wilson over the last decade. It is bittersweet to leave the Barbican, where I have had the opportunity to develop programmes that have had a profound impact on me personally and inspired me as an artist. I am grateful to our dedicated Board of Trustees for trusting me with the creative vision of Abram Wilson, as it moves into a new era and remains committed to fortifying the UK music industry’s talent pipeline.’

Collette Philip, our Chair of Trustees, adds:
‘Mercy is a brilliant artist and strategic and accomplished leader so we are absolutely delighted that she’s accepted the role of Creative Director at Abram Wilson, and look forward to working with her to see her vision for Abram’s legacy come to life’.

We are super excited to have Mercy with us and look forward to the next chapter of the charity under her creative tenure!
