BINKER GOLDING LEADS our SPECIAL 19TH MAY LINE-UP

We’re thrilled to announce a very special gig on Thursday May 19th, led by saxophonist and composer Binker Golding, to mark our 10th anniversary year.

The Church of Sound All-Stars | Abram Wilson Songbook is presented in collaboration with award-winning jazz venue Church of Sound, in Hackney, London. The event will be paying tribute to Abram’s music and performed by an exciting ensemble of talented jazz musicians with connections to him.

As well as Binker Golding on tenor sax, the band includes:

  • Christos Stylianides and Mark Kavuma – trumpets
  • Tyrone Isaac-Stuart – alto sax
  • Nathaniel Cross – trombone
  • Ferg Ireland – bass
  • Eddie Hick – drums
  • Charlie Stacey – piano

Our charity was set up almost a decade ago in memory of trumpet-player Abram Wilson, who was a leading light on the UK jazz scene. In Summer 2012 he was at the height of his creative abilities and in the middle of a UK tour with his band when he became increasingly unwell. Abram died a few weeks later on Saturday 9th June from cancer, when he was just 38 years old.

Jennie Cashman Wilson, Founder and CEO, says:

“When Abram died, the kernel of an idea to somehow continue the work that we had begun together was formed. Abram touched thousands of lives with his music, as an educator of young people and as a mentor to emerging musicians. Almost ten years on, his experiences continue to influence how we work to inspire and support a new generation of musical talent that is representative of the society we live in, as part of a thriving UK jazz scene.

Almost all of the musicians in our 10th anniversary gig ensemble either knew or played with Abram at some point, or have a connection to him, so I’m thrilled that they are coming together to make this an extra special evening.”
